Hi, Clive, and thanks for the response! I thought I would write you a quick note back, and explain that, though I wrote critically of your comments about
GAR, that I meant no animosity by it.
Though I do not, and can not, endorse the KJV-Only position, I can state, emphatically, that the KJV is, along with several other English language
translations, the very Word of God. Further, though I have long argued against any sort of special" inspiration for the KJV, I have argued that it is
still the "flagship" of English translations, the popularity and success of newer translations, like the RSV some years ago, or the NIV,
notwithstanding.
You've picked a worthy board, or rejoined it, in BVDB. Many knowledgeable Christians here, well versed in a variety of Bible, and Bible related topics.
BTW - despite what my avatar suggests, I am NOT Catholic - just to be clear! ;)
Hi 77,
My apologies for not responding to your kind email before now. Your suggestion that I get involved in other threads etc is a good one. Problem is that when I
read comments on our particularthread they stir me to respond, either to challenge or research. It's quite a discipline to persevere without feeling a
little paranoid, as if one is being got at for holding an extreme. It'll all come out in the wash, and we will know the answer to the versions issue when
we get to heaven no doubt!!
You didn't tell me your real name, and I guess that's because you would rather retain your anonymity in the formal discussion. No worries. I have yet
to update my blogsite to give a more personal profile - all in good time. All the best to you, Clive Govier
